So, a couple projects that have been posted as WIP examples have kind of needed to be set aside.
There are reasons.
Reasons.
I did a lot of research and writing on Oxymoron over the years, but there is now a book that is virtually identical in its premise and that is awesome for that writer and awful for me. The research and work continues and now I am writing for ProstAmerika.com so the research is useful.
So, the notion of a similar book is only part of the problem. The other is that I am multitasking on my creative projects too much and this happens. When I committed to Boomerang, the comic book shop, and The Modern Groom, et al, they got done. I need to remember that lesson.
Pieces of The Scarecrow Effect might still turn up in other projects, but it is really life imitating art imitating life at this point and that is too weird to work on as a result.
Previous excerpts and the like of both projects may confuse people reading them now since this blog is almost a decade old, but both are functionally dead.
I need to pick a project and finish it.
Multitasking means nothing gets done.

I already prefer it
Thanksgiving 2014 was good grub and a chance to hop in to my son's truck for the first time. Plenty to be thankful for. I already basically prefer TG to XM and this adds to that feeling.
That time when suddenly Brussels Sprouts became a thing I like.
First ride in son's first ride.
Everything else has a holiday
I joke a bit here, but the gesture was nice.
As a sub teacher I get a lot of crap thrown my way. And so, even though it seemed a bit silly to have a Substitute Teacher Day recently, I will totally take it.

I am not getting any faster.
Actually, I spent this year with my right ankle fractured and in a boot and then after healing up and getting fit in the summer I ended up with a serious calf injury.
I genuinely expected to fail this year.
I had a plan for the first third of the run and ended up exceeding plans the first dozen miles or so. The next 9 miles sucked, but the sun and dry pavement was a saving grace. The last 5 miles were basically a trot in, so I was pretty pleased with finishing #17.
17 years and counting, almost up to The Undertaker's streak.

We were sworn to actual secrecy and threatened with being beaten by oranges should we disclose details, but I figure a little blog post and a simple blurred photo of a stage with limited information should be safe.
I am looking forward to the album, then everyone can enjoy this show.

The Last Unicorn
I had never actually read The Last Unicorn or watched the film prior to last week and that is actually a bit weird given my tastes.
Peter S. Beagle himself was touring the film and signing books so we took the opportunity to attend and see the film on the big screen. I purchased a copy of Tamsin and got it signed.
This was a wonderful event.

Woke up to a Dexter like crime scene
It was Halloween morning. There was blood in the hallway. There was a lot of blood in the hallway.
There were boxes in the hallway with enough blood on them to completely cover one of them. There was blood on the walls where claws had scraped. There was a trail of blood. There were drops of blood on shoes and books and items.
The black cat was down the hall, calmly grooming.
The tiny little grey cat was missing.
The blood led into the kitchen.
For several seconds I was afraid of what I might find.
Toenail break. Cut ear from scratching. A blood soaked paw and head. A first bath. One angry little cat. One offended cat.

Finding October
Preliminary poster
Getting my costume ready
I had the opportunity to work on a film as an actor lately in late October. The film is titled Finding October and should be out early-ish next year. My part consisted of a day filming in Eastern Washington. I am holding off posting any of the handful of during production photos I took or commenting further until the filmmakers do.

Setting aside the lameness of the name
I do think that Seattle Sounders FC 2 as a name for the new USL Pro team is a truly, truly lame name, but the way this is being done makes a lot of sense to me.
I also decided to go ahead and join the trust and am looking into running for a seat on it.

I went for a theme this year.

I ended up working and on a panel because of the above item.

I have to admit I was much less familiar with this work than I thought it was. The real time auditioning of most of it speaks to the sense of urgency of the characters. And, even though it is dated to the time of its creation it remains timely. Nice.

Playing catch up ... again
Fell behind on the blog posts ... again. So in lieu of a slew of them, here is one big post to bridge the gap since June when I was last posting.
I am afraid of how large that bird was.
Had to try it. Disgusting. Could not finish it.
Took the golf clubs out a bunch recently. Me and the boy and now the girl too. Life is good. Birdie putts rock.
Nature is beautiful.
Birthday cake? No. Birthday peaches and cream.
