Digital camera blurry

Moon and Venus the other night.

With digital there is a fight to focus.  Film would have given me time to set the camera and the speed.  But, given this was a short window, I tried a few and got this one.

Museum thoughts

There's something about sitting on a bench in a museum gallery that makes me feel like I'm in a spy thriller movie waiting for something.

A beautiful day for a 20 second swim

For the record, the water in Puget Sound is cold today if you are going swimming.

Because there is an awesome beer shop near my house I managed to get this little import.

L means 50

The L.

It means so many things.

It is also a great present for one's older bro to get for his 50th birthday.

Not actually twins. Selfie with a co-founder.

It's just right there downtown and everything built around it.

All the hubbub

Now I know what the hubbub is all about.  Needing to go to Vegas for work meant I finally went there for the first time.  I get it, it's fun. Glad I got to go.

But, for me, a return trip to NYC for shows and nightlife would be my priority over a return to the desert.

The view out the hotel room window.

Considered actually playing this slot machine.

Got a point, it didn't matter.

I went across the line and jumped in the water at about 42 minutes. The official times were chip based and there was a chute after and I was waiting for all the group to get through so I am calling this 42 minutes.

Because Reasons (or the dangers of multitasking)

So, a couple projects that have been posted as WIP examples have kind of needed to be set aside.

There are reasons.

Reasons.

I did a lot of research and writing on Oxymoron over the years, but there is now a book that is virtually identical in its premise and that is awesome for that writer and awful for me.  The research and work continues and now I am writing for ProstAmerika.com so the research is useful.

So, the notion of a similar book is only part of the problem.  The other is that I am multitasking on my creative projects too much and this happens.  When I committed to Boomerang, the comic book shop,  and The Modern Groom, et al, they got done.  I need to remember that lesson.

Pieces of The Scarecrow Effect might still turn up in other projects, but it is really life imitating art imitating life at this point and that is too weird to work on as a result.

Previous excerpts and the like of both projects may confuse people reading them now since this blog is almost a decade old, but both are functionally dead.

I need to pick a project and finish it.

Multitasking means nothing gets done.

I cannot believe I swallowed some of this

Fire cider.  Look it up.  It is heinous.  It also seems to actually have a positive affect.

I already prefer it

Thanksgiving 2014 was good grub and a chance to hop in to my son's truck for the first time.  Plenty to be thankful for.  I already basically prefer TG to XM and this adds to that feeling.

That time when suddenly Brussels Sprouts became a thing I like.

First ride in son's first ride.

Everything else has a holiday

I joke a bit here, but the gesture was nice.

As a sub teacher I get a lot of crap thrown my way.  And so, even though it seemed a bit silly to have a Substitute Teacher Day recently, I will totally take it.

Failure is (actually) an option

Seattle Marathon
November 30, 2014

I am not getting any faster.

Actually, I spent this year with my right ankle fractured and in a boot and then after healing up and getting fit in the summer I ended up with a serious calf injury.

I genuinely expected to fail this year.

I had a plan for the first third of the run and ended up exceeding plans the first dozen miles or so.  The next 9 miles sucked, but the sun and dry pavement was a saving grace.  The last 5 miles were basically a trot in, so I was pretty pleased with finishing #17.

17 years and counting, almost up to The Undertaker's streak.

We were sworn to actual secrecy and threatened with being beaten by oranges should we disclose details, but I figure a little blog post and a simple blurred photo of a stage with limited information should be safe.

I am looking forward to the album, then everyone can enjoy this show.

The Last Unicorn

I had never actually read The Last Unicorn or watched the film prior to last week and that is actually a bit weird given my tastes.

Peter S. Beagle himself was touring the film and signing books so we took the opportunity to attend and see the film on the big screen.  I purchased a copy of Tamsin and got it signed.

This was a wonderful event.

Old Advice

I advise boys three things.

1) Learn to cook.

2) Learn to dance.

3) Own a suit.

And so, a new suit.

The Art of Asking Book Tour

MP

I scored a goal on MP in high school, my only varsity goal.

I dated a girl from MP in high school.

My friend had a son attend there.

I have actually worked there several days as a sub years ago.

And although I have no real other connection, it just made things that much more real.
