This went to the effing moon

Destination Moon

This went to the moon.  Four days later, I turned two.  This, and the burial mask of King Tut are about the coolest things I have ever seen in museum exhibits.

A Decade Is A Long Time

A decade is a long time, and yet really not.

Ten years ago, I want to say yesterday as the 13th is a date I remember, but it could be another day or so in the next week in mid-June, I sat down for a haircut at Supercuts and got my head mostly shaved pretty tight.

My aunt was dying of cancer and at some point I decided I should not have cut the hair at all and started growing it out to maybe donate.

However, it appeared that donation was a thing that would be actually tricky and maybe expensive and with my grey hair it might not be wanted.

But, I grew it out, went through the winter of awful hair length and just let it go.

No, I am pretty sure no one I reasonably hang out with even know me with short hair, people I have known a long time and see intermittently do remember it.  Some people feel the need to comment on it as though it were any of their concern.

But, it has been a decade.  I sometimes joke, "I remember haircuts."

A decade is a long time, ish.

An Absurd Amount Of Work For An Ephemera Project Update

I put an absurd amount of work into this.

Basically, I knew that there was a gap in my concerts Ephemera Project notes from a show I saw in 2005.  The whole point of this is to be thorough, but instead of just looking at the ticket stub that was in an album, like they all are, I dug around on the internet for a while, emailed the venue, looked at old concert calendars, and eventually got awfully sweaty digging around old boxes to find the album the ticket stub was in.

It was more difficult than it needed to be.

So, the concert and club shows list should include:

January 5, 2005
EMP - Seattle, WA
Cloud Nine Music

They are a band from Michigan, Ann Arbor to be exact.  Although I recall them mentioning Detroit, which effed up my google search.

But, I do not have the young hip hop artist name that opened.  That is probably a bridge too far nearly 15 years later.

How has this slipped past me?

For over 40 years, I have attended matches at this stadium down a couple hours south of Seattle.

I have seen the Reign FC, Thorns, Sounders, USMNT, WWC matches from 1997 at the Soccer Bowl through two remodels including world cup qualifiers, women's world cup double headers, and NWSL championship matches.

Somehow, I have not seen the home side rival play in their home park.

Somehow, I have not seen either rivalry in the away park.

Somehow, I have seen three of the teams, but not the one, and never against each other.

Somehow, I have seen my two local clubs play in championship matches against other sides and lose in this stadium.

I need to rectify this on both counts.

I Went Full Seattle

The other day it was a cold and dreary May morning that looked to be a nice afternoon.  Layers and Nikes and home made cold brew in a re-purposed glass jar.

Tacoma Has A New Team

Tacoma has a "new" team, just not a team that is new.

I had never actually been to Cheney Stadium or seen a minor league baseball game down in Tacoma, which is weird in the same way I have somehow never gone to Vancouver for a BC Lions game.

With the relocation to Tacoma, i will not be at every match for the first time in five seasons, but the drive is worth it for the approximately half the season I will be in attendance.

Visit ProstAmerika.com and @goalieguys for my coverage.

There are elements of Memorial Stadium I heart very much, including the view from the press box.  However, the Cheney Stadium press box has a great view without the treacherous climb and frightening overhang.

Given it is a baseball stadium, it seems the seating situation would be wonky, but this is not bad at all from the standpoint of getting decent seats.  I do recommend sitting a couple rows up as opposed to ground level.

Chicago & The Force

Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019

Sometimes the people involved go on walkabout and are not a part of the no photos rules because they are in the crowd and on the show floor and we step out of that area and get to catch this.

The pizza is as good as the hype.

I am an action figure.

A great AirBnB

It would have been snowed out anyway, so just going to the stadium itself was still cool.

Level of visibility due to the Sunday storm equaled zero feet, so much like we could not see the top of the Willis Tower we could not have seen down it either. There was no point in paying the dollars to go up. But, i would have liked to have seen the view.

I had been remiss about seeing the Stars

Tacoma Stars 5
San Diego Sockers 9
MASL Regular Season
ShoWare Center - Kent, WA
February 17, 2019

It had been a very long time since I last attended a Tacoma Stars match (1992), much less a Tacoma versus San Diego Sockers match (1991).  I was remiss in attending for a very long time since the return of the Stars, and the signing of a certain someone who ended up not playing or being there was not something I could find out about at the time and confused a number of folks in my section, it was cool to get to a match after all that time and also finally see the ShoWare Center.

Other than a couple of odd indoor exhibition tours the USWNT did in 99-00, I had not been to a pro indoor match since the Seattle Seadogs in 1997.

So, I have now seen 5 matches over the eras between the two storied indoor sides.  SD has a 4-1 edge in those matches dating back to the MISL 1986 playoffs.

MISL/MSL era:
05-07-86 5-8 (MISL playoffs)
05-22-87 5-6 (MISL playoffs)
03-30-91 10-1 (MSL regular season)
11-01-91 4-6 (MSL regular season)
