So, the cool writing gig changed suddenly

For the past several seasons I have covered the Seattle Reign FC for ProstAmerika.com and @goalieguys with Vanya Tucherov.

After posting a piece about a calm off-season yesterday, today the club moved to Tacoma. The move to Tacoma is a sensible one given the practical realities the club faces in regards to finances and a stadium.  I am not going to argue about that because it is simply true.

For me though, it means a run of about 50 matches over four seasons without missing a game at Memorial Stadium is a record that simply is in place forever.

I will still be covering the (no longer Seattle but simply) Reign FC.  The number of matches I make in person is now a bunch less.  The simple logistics of a 59 mile one way drive through two cities and the traffic mess that is I5 is a nightmare.  So, I will catch matches here and there and likely one in PDX when visiting fam.

Suddenly, the cool writing gig is simply no longer the same.

Muscle memory is a thing

Flying over the handlebars evokes muscle memory.

I was riding these little electric scooters in San Antonio last Monday.

So I found a safer ride.

9 x 5 inches oval is likely a bruise record for me.  I am fortunate that I stuck the landing and chose to go with the fall, it kept my head up and just meant that the handlebar catching my leg was all that happened.

The day he became a DH

Edgar signed this for me on May 7, 1990 outside the Kingdome when the Mariners played the Boston Red Sox.

A day earlier, Edgar had by far the worst day of his career playing third base against Baltimore, committing 4 errors that day.

Even though he was there taking extra fielding before the game, it is likely that this is the day the organization decided he was a DH

Congratulations on being the greatest DH of all effing time and being elected to the HOF.

2019 moving forward

Even though a lot of good things happened last year for me, there was also the reality of much else not being great personally, professionally, and in the world.

Looking to 2019 it is essential to keep fighting the good fight and hope that looking back on this past era becomes something we can do sooner rather than later.

To start the year off on the blog I am just going to leave that there and put a little guitar jamming vid up here.
