Free Theatre ....

None of these photos were taken during the performances ... they are all of the scene and setting so as to not violate the request of the production companies involved in regards to photographing their productions ...

It was four weeks of Thursday evening free Shakespeare in the park … (free theatre, but it always feels right to donate) ...

Wooden O Theatre Productions gave us The Merry Wives of Windsor & The Merchant of Venice on July 19 and 26 …

Greenstage gave us Richard III & The Two Gentlemen of Verona on August 2 and 9 …

I got a chance to go to all four productions and enjoyed them all immensely.

The two production companies took different approaches to their Shakespeare; with Wooden O actually bringing sets and setting the plays in what seemed like the 1920s and Greenstage using virtually no sets and classical dress … both are valid and interesting ways to bring Shakespeare to life …

There were some real highlights in the various productions; especially in The Two Gentlemen of Verona where “Dueling Banjos” found its way into the production … overall, worth the four Thursdays …

There are only five rows in the Lynndale Park Amphitheatre ... bring your own chair or lean against a tree or sit in the dirt if you don’t get there early, or even if you do and don’t want to sit on a backless bench ...

There is something really cool about live theatre with the sounds of softball, kids playing, trains, planes, and ferry boat horns all around …

HOWEVER … don't bring little, little kids or dogs ... especially when there is a dog in the production ... still, people do it anyways ... and it never works, EVER ...
