Yes … we are in a different era with players skipping college and pros in the Olympics … but bear me out … think of all of the great players over the past few decades and only two of them have achieved this and two more have an opportunity to join them in 2008:
Grant Hill - Duke - Atlanta 1996 - PHX 08?
Ray Allen - UConn - Sydney 2000 - BOS 08?
Hill and Allen have the opportunity this year to join … Magic and MJ … Bear in mind that Magic only got his because of the 92 Dream Team while MJ got his with 2 golds; even though the 84 team didn’t have to face the Soviets …
Think of all the guys that came close … agonizingly close … over the past 30 years ... Ewing, Hakeem, Drexler, Bird, Laettner, Sam Perkins ...
How is this not a story?
On a related note only 6 women have achieved the same triple in the WNBA's dozen or so years and the Seattle Storm have three of them this year.
