Too bad we don't have a soccer specific stadium in Seattle ...

Too bad we don't have a soccer specific stadium in Seattle ...

This summer marks the end of the sixth year in which Qwest Field has been open for business ...

In those six years we have seen a huge crowd for the opening event ... a Seattle Sounders soccer game ...

In those six years we have seen a US Men's National Team friendly against Venezuela ...

In those six years we have seen a USL-1 team play home games, playoff games, a championship game, Open Cup games against MLS teams, MLS exhibitions, and internationals against teams from Mexico and the United Kingdom ...

In those six years we have seen the stadium sell out in a few hours for Manchester United to play Celtic ...

In those six years we have seen the stadium sell out for Real Madrid against DC United ...

In those six years we have seen a game with a good crowd for a match between Chelsea and Celtic ...

In those six years we have seen a huge crowd turn out for a friendly between Mexico and China ...

In those six years we have seen the CONCACAF Gold Cup play two double headers in the Group Phase ...

In those six years we have seen a MLS franchise be awarded to play in the facility ...

And from what we read on the internets ... Brazil will be making a stop here shortly ...

Now if only we had a Soccer Specific Stadium in Seattle, maybe this soccer thing might do a little better ...

  1. These "Pro Qwest Field" rants have got to...continue! :)

  2. GS-1 ... How many people will not get that Qwest actually is a SSS (albeit a huge one)and that this is a bit of sarcasm and irony?

  3. You keep writing blasphemous trash like this and I'll...probably keep reading this blog. Well done. That's a great point that Qwest is actually a SSS, albeit a massive one. It WAS designed for soccer from the get-go. Followed the link from GoalSeattle.

  4. SSS="Soccer Sanctioned Stadium." We've got one. How many people will get that? Um, let's say *some.*

  5. Qwest is best for soccer at the highest level. Hosting a World Cup Qualifier would set a new high water mark for Qwest and Seattle. All the better if it was USA-Mexico; USA-Canada would be next best. If we ever win another bid for the World Cup Finals, Qwest is a must. The ultimate would be hosting the World Cup Championship Match.

    Just dreaming ....

    Qwest was designed for soccer.
I don't know why some people just don't understand that?

It was part of the deal when the vote was put to public. A FOOTBALL/SOCCER SPECIFIC STADIUM!

Seats go right up to the line. It's great!
My tickets were far from the field during Real Madrids game. Mexico vs China too. But the view was great. Not a bad seat in the house for this game.

  7. Wow ... this one got some readers ... what is cool about Qwest is that due to the sunken nature of the field, the way sound bounces back down from the overhang (thanks Uncle Doug), and the closeness of the crowd, the Sounders can have 10k there for FC Dallas and the place is rocking ... 20k there for MLS matches will have a great atmosphere ... A WCQ in the fall would be spectacular ...

  8. Qwest Field is like having an F350 pickup when maybe a Subaru Outback would be a better day-to-day vehicle. But for those times when you actually need the F350 ... yeah!
